The Problem

The Academy Awards Show (or “The Oscars”) is the most important awards show in the movie industry.  It is also a major event that is watched by millions of people worldwide.  You are part of the creative team that is working on the “opening number” for the Academy Awards Show (i.e. the first five minutes or so).  What is the best way to set the tone for the show and “grab the attention” of the audience?

What makes an opener memorable?

Students will review the Academy Awards Show, as well as techniques to “grab attention,” and come up with their best opening number.
